ELISABETH KRUGER

Selected Biography

 

Born in Noumea, New Caledonia in 1955, Elisabeth Kruger currently lives and works in New South Wales.


Since her first solo exhibition at the Crafts Council of Australia in 1978, Elisabeth has held several solo shows with Eva Breuer Art Dealer, Sydney, including Asleep in the Garden (1999); Pink (2001); Nine New Paintings (2002); New Paintings (2004) and Elisabeth Kruger: New Paintings (2005), Martin Browne Fine Art, Sydney, Elisabeth Kruger: fifteen (2008) and more recently, with Karen Woodbury Gallery, Melbourne, Elisabeth Kruger (2004).


She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including Snap Freeze: Still Life Now, TarraWarra Museum of Art, Healesville (2007); the Sulman Prize, Art Gallery of New South Wales (1999); Salon des Refusés, SH Ervin Gallery, New South Wales (1999 and 1997); Mulch and Metaphors, Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery, Victoria (1997); Portia Geach, SH Ervin Gallery, New South Wales (1997); Adelaide Biennale of Australian Art, Art Gallery of South Australia (1990); and Recent Acquisitions, National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne (1990).

In 1989, Elisabeth was awarded the prestigious Moët & Chandon Art Fellowship Prize, and in 1990, was the recipient of a Studio Residency from the Visual Arts/Craft Board of the Arts Council which she undertook in Besozzo, Italy.

Her work is widely admired and appears in many major public and corporate collections such as the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra; the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne; Artbank, the Legislative Assembly, Canberra; Australian National University, Canberra; University of Canberra; Macquarie University, New South Wales; Deakin University, Victoria; Wesfarmers, Perth; ANZ Bank Art Collection, Melbourne; the RACV Art Collection, Melbourne; and Moët & Chandon, Epernay, France.
